 Let's Clay Together!

About
Pottery _Wheelfulness_27-04-21-44_edited_edited.jpg

I offer somatic clay therapy at my quiet, light-filled studio in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs or online via Zoom.

In my therapy sessions, I work with three complementary practices: Clay Field®, Clayfulness™, and Wheelfulness™.
Clay Field® therapy focuses on sensorimotor engagement to help release tension and strengthen underactive functions.  Clayfulness™ is a psychodynamic approach that involves intuitive sculpting to explore deeper layers of the psyche.  Wheelfulness™ is a mindfulness-based practice at the pottery wheel, designed to cultivate somatic centeredness and focused attention.

Qualification & Specialized Training:

  • PhD, Honours, & Bachelor in Psychology, University of Western Sydney

  • Clay Field ® and Guided Drawing® Therapies, Trauma-Informed Training, Institute for Sensorimotor Art Therapy

  • Narrative Sand Therapy, Humanistic-Existential Psychotherapy, The Sand Therapy Training Institute

  • Initiatic Art Therapy, Institute for Sensorimotor Art Therapy

  • 'Building a Strong Body Ego' Workshop, Bodynamic International

  • 'The Wakeful Body' Somatic Mindfulness Course, Natural Dharma Fellowship

My clay therapy practice is shaped by ongoing curiosity and a love of learning. Before I found my way to clay, I spent several years in academia—designing and teaching psychology courses at the university level. That foundation still informs my work today through my engagement with the evolving field of somatic psychology.

Individual Theraphy

Individual Therapy

In individual sessions, I provide a personalized approach to your healing and self-exploration. Unlike group classes, one-on-one sessions allow us to work more deeply with specific psychological challenges, in privacy and at your own pace.

ANXIETY
The tactile experience of working with clay promotes relaxation and eases anxiety. Somatic mindfulness involved in the Wheelfulness approach is particularly effective for fostering centeredness, emotional regulation, and quieting racing thoughts. Intuitive sculpting in Clayfulness may offer deeper insight about some unconscious triggers of anxiety.

POST-TRAUMATIC STRESS
Clay therapy offers a safe and embodied way to process trauma stored in the body. Shaping the clay helps regulating the nervous system and provides a nonverbal outlet for expressing and releasing difficult and often unconscious emotions.

DEPRESSION
The hands-on nature of working with clay can ease depression through engaging the brain's reward system. There is an immediate feedback mechanism between the motor actions of shaping the clay and the sensory experience of its transformation. This sensorimotor experience reinforces a sense of agency and stimulates dopamine release, which plays a key role in enhancing mood.

SENSORY PROCESSING
Working with clay is especially beneficial for individuals diagnosed with autism, ADHD, and other conditions related to sensory processing. Clay therapy helps regulating the nervous system through developing fine motor skills and sensory integration in a relaxing environment that promotes focused attention and creative self-expression.
